Terylene, discovered at Broad Oak Printworks during the Second World War
Khaki colour - discovered by Gatty (the park along Hyndburn Road being named after him)
Sorry, but Alice Liddle did NOT live at Oak Hill Mansion, it was the man who eventually became her husband i.e. Reginald Hargreaves
Mystic Meg was indeed BORN just off Blackburn Road, but her family only lived there a couple of years

Post Re: Accrington Claim to fame

The marvellous collection of Tiffany Glass, which is in Haworth Art Gallery, is all thanks to an Accrington man, Mr JOSEPH BRIGGS, who was born at No. 1 Milnshaw Lane, Accrington. He went to "seek his fortune" in America and ended up staying there. After eventually gaining work at the famous Tiffany Studio, he in time became Manager.  When Tiffany glass went out of famous in the 1930's he had the sense to ship some home, to his native town.  It is today a unique collection.
