Mapping Accrington

All of the maps in Accrington Town Centre are out of date and need revamping. The last time this was done was about ten years ago and in that time many road systems have changed. So, to help visitors to the town centre, a new map is being produced.

But it will not be an ordinary directional map.

As part of the Liberating Empty Terrain project, artist John Flanagan will be creating a map which has the public's favourite places on it.

On the 10th July, John and a team of volunteers will be in Accrington Town Centre, conducting a simple questionnaire, talking to local people to find out how people use the town centre, what routes they take and most importantly, where their favourite places are.

If you see the team, please go along to talk to them. Questionnaires are downloadable from the Civic Arts Centres website http://www.civicartscentre.co.uk/projects.htm

Over the coming months, Accrington will be the inspiration for a number of activities after the map is completed including temporary art installations and exciting new creative drama pieces. Community groups and local youth groups are invited to get involved. For more information visit the Civic Arts Centre’s website Civic Arts Centre. All briefs will be posted on there and information for groups who want to get involved will be available.

Liberating Empty Terrain (LET) is a new project by Creativity Works which aims to raise awareness of the high quality creative industries that exist in Pennine Lancashire. Creativity Works is an initiative co-ordinated by the Arts Officers of Pennine Lancashire, Creative Lancashire, Curious Minds and Arts Council England NorthWest.

PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO TALK TO JOHN OR THE TEAM, OR DOWNLOAD THE QUESTIONNAIRE AND EMAIL IT BACK TO ME
