Re: Morrisons new store in Accrington
I wonder what will happen to the Iceland store in the Arndale, should Morrison's succeed in buying the chain? For those of you who are not aware, Iceland is owned by a bankrupt Icelandic bank that is having to dispose of it's assets; the bidding process starts shortly but Morrison's have already appointed financial advisors and are first off the block. It could of course, go to ASDA, Sainsbury's or Tesco's or even a third party and the retail estate split up; even the brand name could be kept.

Re: Morrisons new store in Accrington
The sale of a majority stake in frozen food retailer Iceland could spark an auction for the whole chain.
The Resolution Committee of failed Icelandic bank Landsbanki is appointing investment banking advisers to sell its majority 67 per cent holding in the supermarket.
The 750-store portfolio, worth between £1.7 billion and £2 billion, is expected to attract plenty of interest from rival supermarket chains and private equity outfits alike. If the auction of Iceland Foods goes ahead, Wm Morrison - the UK’s fourth biggest food retailer and currently building a chain of convenience stores - is expected to examine the properties as a potential acquisition.

Re: Morrisons new store in Accrington
I have now ventured into the Morrisons, thought the same as Cashy it is too compact. They have tried to cram in as much as possible! It were pretty quiet when we went in but wouldnt bother if it looked busy from the outside as I would just get shopping rage!!
I also dont understand why they have put the Newspapers/Mags past the tills? You pay for your shopping and then if you do want a paper you would have to pay for it at the fag till or hold the queue up while you pick!
Recieved vouchers in the post yesterday though for the next few weeks spend £20 and get a fiver off so will prob be going again as I cant turn away free shopping!
