Re: Spanish Revolution?
It ain't stopping my holiday....
And here's a thought, why not try to look on the bright side of life for once instead of being so damned miserable and predicting death and pestilence for everyone? Life is no rehearsal Margaret, no second chance, live a bit!!!

If your interpretation of my posts is 'death and pestilence', then I feel sad for your closed mind - you see what you want to see - I see this as potential for change for the better

Re: Spanish Revolution?
Either way , it still isn't getting in the way of my holiday and all I am saying is you never look on the bright side, go mad, live a little! I've lost 3 good friends in 21 days earlier this year, all before their time, eldest was 53, you never know when it's your time !

Your response demonstrates a rather superficial, self centred, view of major world events - perhaps you should Twitter a request that it should be postponed until you get back.
I refute the gloom aspect you ascribe to my posts - 'this is the dawning of the age of Aquarius' - you haven't lived long enough to appreciate the implications
PS I have lived a lot - and don't fear death - looks like you do

Re: Spanish Revolution?
It's easy to forget that Spain was ruled by a fascist military dictatorship, until the mid seventies.
Hot and sunny equals political unstability.
Let's hope they have rain in London soon.

Re: Spanish Revolution?
I have not seen, or heard, of any demonstrations in this area and there has been nothing in the local paper

Re: Spanish Revolution?
In the abysmal abscence of press bulletins I have searched for news reports.
I do not usually read marxist press but this does ring true for me.
Spain: The rebellion of the youth | In Defence of Marxism
"These protests took all the politicians by surprise. They have reacted with hysteria and alarm.
The defenders of the existing society are scandalized: “this is anarchy”, they protest. “This is chaos!”
Some even say it is a “threat to democracy”.
Yet what we are seeing on the streets of Madrid and other Spanish cities is no threat to democracy but, on the contrary,
an attempt to exercise direct democracy: to give a voice to those who have no voice, to defend the interests of those who nobody defends.
When they speak of a “threat to democracy”, what do they mean?
Democracy in its literal sense signifies the rule of the people.
But is it true that the people really rule in Spain or anywhere else?
No, it is false. In the framework of capitalist society, the participation of the majority of people in democracy is limited to voting
every five years or so for one or other of the existing political parties.
Once they are elected, they do whatever they like, and the people have no means of changing anything".
I have been watching the live stream of Sol square Madrid.
MotionLook on USTREAM: Directo desde La Puerta del Sol. Más de 2 millones de solicitudes a este Stream. .
The Masses of people there were chanting - then at midnight (our 11pm) an eerie silence descended and they waited for the clock to finish chiming and let out a tumultous roar.
Now, today their gathering becomes illegal because of their municipal elections tomorrow.(crunch time!)
They appear to be motivated to stay, in order to demand their right to 'Real Democracy Now'

Re: Spanish Revolution?
Hope they go the "Canadian" way (see Erics thread on the recent election there) and throw all the incumbants (Bums) out and vote in a bunch of complete 'newbies' , folks who have no past experiance of playing the election games . I'm sick and tired of professional politicians.
