There is nothing to stop Boris becoming PM without being an MP but it would not happen any more than the Queen refusing to sign an act of parliament. She could refuse but the constitutional crisis that would follow would possibly bring about the downfall of the royal family. Conventions are everything in this country whether we like it or not.
By the way (new paragraph for Susie123) the "mis-spelling" of grammatically was a typo done at about 2 in the morning, sorry.
