Re: Southend Thread.
Settle for a clean sheet and a away win in very very hot conditions. The game started with us playing 4-2-3-1,which once again gave us a defensive look, but a bit of possession early on.
They set up 4-1-3-2,which to be fair, pinned our fullbacks back and let there's get forward.
Have to disagree about liddle, although stitched up on a few occasions,a fullbacks first job is to stop crosses coming in,and stopped counting at ten !!,this in turn allowed them to attack the back post, and linney was under pressure.(to be fair to liddle, the lad in front of him wasn't tracking the right back)
Enter the master tactician Cook!,bring dean on at right back, push linney forward, and shunt the midfield across which made us more solid.
We nicked a goal and looked solid.
They then brought on a centre back up front, and the bombardment started.
Once again,Cooky read it,pulled linney deeper and moved dean across to give us three centre backs.
Bav will get the plaudits (and rightly so),but the managers reading of the game was key,and wasn't frightened to make early subs
Would coley have done that?,0-0 away from home?,very much doubt it.
Big mention for all the lads making there debuts, all played there part, keep an eye out for young Miller, like what I am seeing
