Dakar (Senegal) today. This is a large port city, which has seen better days and declined since the colonial power (France in this case) left. In the morning we went on a trip to Goree Island about three miles offshore, with slave trade associations and something of a contrast to downtown Dakar.
- Cars and trucks on the harbour - imports, presumably
- Harbour cranes
- The city comes right down to the harbour
- Ships in harbour - the one on the left is in a floating dry dock
- First view of the island
- Top deck of the ferry
- Buildings on the shore as we approached the island
- Old fort on the island
- Women disembarking the ferry
- Men disembarking the ferry - we saw them later chanting in a street procession - think they were on their way to the mosque
