I quote from an 1838 book which describes hundreds of towns and villages:-

ACCRINGTON ;a considerable vilage of 6283 population (1923 in Old Accrington,4960 in New Accrington....a factory for weaving and printing calico cloth is powered by a steam engine of 26horse power.

CHURCH-TOWN; has 979 inhabitants (I have not seen Church named in this fashion before)

RISHTON : has 919 inhabitants

HUNCOAT has 502 inhabitants

I shall have a look for Clayton soon.
