In the late 1940s I had a friend who lived at the bottom of Milnshaw lane and when we went playing around the Broadway area which in those days was just spare ground, Broadway had wooden boards about 6 ft tall on either side painted green, from the Odeon cinema to Blackburn road. As kids we always took a short cut by going through the culvert which then came out at Bull Bridge near to the Australian pub, but I can't remember where we got in to the culvert
