It depends how far back you want to go, if you go back far enough you reach a point that starts off with the big bang theory, and an ever expanding universe, at this point the potential for the creation of life started, so we are all made from the dust of stars and the universe.
The search for the Higgs Boson particle was supposed to answer the questions not yet answered. this remains to be seen.
