I'm old enough to remember that at one time a wife couldn't get credit without her husbands permission.
My wife went to Dixons after we'd discussed purchasing a microwave oven on credit.
She filled in the forms all going well, until the salesMAN said, 'all we need now is your husbands signature', I somehow have the impression from what she told me, that if he was going to walk again it would be as if he was astride a horse.
(We bought the microwave elsewhere).
