Re: Wycombe Match Thread

If only Odejayi had been on from the start, it would have been a very different game. He was winning just about every long ball against the two big defenders and he was a natural target at throw ins. Before his arrival, those centre backs must have been having one of their easiest ever games. James Gray reminds me more and more of Podge. Non-stop running and effort, but little end product and far too easily outmuscled.

As others have said, there were some real disappointments, notably Webber and Naismith.

Midfield is a worry. I happen to think it is more of a tactical problem than one of individuals. I am probably in a minority but I feel sorry for Luke Joyce because I feel that too much is being expected of him in our current set-up. His options as a creative midfield player are very limited. Murphy seems to have a wandering role and can't be relied on to be in space to receive a telling pass. The hard-working Mingoia is not a natural left winger (or even left-footer), nor for that matter is Naismith a natural right winger (or a right-footer). The first reaction of both is to cut inside, towards an already crowded midfield. So it seems to my naive mind that Joyce has limited options when he gets the ball. For threats from the wing, we have to rely on Hunt and Naylor/Wilson/Liddle. Yesterday, Hunt made a couple of great forays forward but Wilson had his hands full against a lively right winger. Anyway, just my thoughts!
