Talking of this town reminds me of when my mother-in-law was in her local post office (here in South Australia) and she made the comment to the man behind the counter that some of the towns in Australia had some very strange names.
The man looked at the address on the envelope he was stamping for her and started laughing.
When she related the story to us later she said she thought he was ignorant as she couldn’t understand why he laughed because ‘there’s nowt wrong wi’ Oswaldtwistle’.
