It's all in the muzzle velocity. The guy in the deer photo ... love it by the way ... is using a lever action ... looks like a 30-30 ... probably a Winchester '94, or maybe a Marlin. They don't have that high of a muzzle velocity; Google will tell you exactly
. You could lower the speed by loading your own ammo and cutting down on the propellant. Maybe there's a local gun club you could check out. I think Retlaw knows a lot more about this shiite than I do. My knowledge is limited to things like knowing not to use a Ruger 204 when hunting in heavy bush.
There's possibly special cameras that would do the trick, but I don't know much about photography.
