When we had our renovations done( two years ago we had dry rot)I ditched the carpets and we now have varnished boards...with rugs.
I varnished the boards myself and it was really hard work.
Any spills are easy to wipe up and contrary to what my husband said they are not overly noisy or cold.
Anyway, it is good you are sorted out.
