Re: People Born in the 1940's

I was born late in the Forties….while I would have liked to go to dances at Knowlmere St and Joe Morts, my mother thought that the girls who went to these places were ‘no better than they ought to be’…so I was thwarted at every turn.
Anyway I couldn’t dance for toffee.
I did get to go to Spring Hill Methodist church hall on a Saturday night, four pence to go in and a glass of Kia Ora and a couple of biscuits…..the boys sat against one wall…the girls against the other….I can’t recall seeing many boys actually dancing.
The girls danced in a circle and it was all over by nine pm.
I was accompanied home by my friend and her father….so not a chance for any romantic attachment.

As for fast cars…..none of those either….but music…yes definitely the very best music played on the little Danette as loud as it would go.
