2024/25 Prediction League Game 23 v Carlisle United (away)
I have some good news for you all ……….
Even if we lose to the Cumbrians on Sunday we won’t end the month in last place, on account of our enormously healthy lead over them at the moment (aka 4 points) …… we also have a game in hand over them……………… The bad news is that if we get nowt (not unknown this season) and Morecambe win at Salford, we’ll then be 23rd , albeit with two games in hand on them, and in the New Year’s Do-Do. Can’t afford any seasonal do-do, lads ………….
Starter for ten, then; can anybody tell me the worst defeat suffered by a team which was, at the start of that game, top of their League? If it helps – and it won’t – it has happened twice by the same score, once in November 1911, when Hull went to Molineux to play Wolves in the old Division Two, and again on Boxing Day 1938, when Newport, then top of D3S, played Swindon at the County Ground
And I still think that back in day the Tranmere game would have gone ahead! If you can see both goals from the centre spot, you play on ………. Flippin’ wimps!
You’ll very well know that our record to date is P20 W4 D7 L9 for 19 points and a -10GD … Three consecutive wins in October (Morecambe 2-1 at home, Gillingham 2-1 away and Barrow 1-0 chez nous) had us Daring to Dream, but the Dreams Died again, even when we stuffed TwistySpires Utd 3-0 away three games later ………… And to make things worserer, we’ve lost 10 points by conceding goals on or after 80 mins which turned a lead into a draw or a defeat …… otherwise we’d be 13th on 29 points, and six points off the playoff places
Carlisle brought in 12 new players in the summer, and now prop up the table with 3 wins (Barrow 1-0 at home, Swindon 2-0 away, and Salford 1-0 away) …….. they haven’t won since 9th November (4 draws, 2 losses), and haven’t scored in nine of their League games ………… curiously, we last won in the League (yes, it’s true) on 9th November.
I’m increasingly troubled …………… actually, I’m in panic mode
For those (like me) who hadn’t checked, we kick off at 12.30 tomorrow …………… and for those who Give a Damn, the biggest defeat on a team heading their League was 8-0 in both the quoted matches
And a Happy New Year (I wish!)
Good luck to everyone! ……….. Keep the Faith! ……… And thanks for playing!
