Thumbs up Dial a Fortune but not for YOU.

I have recently read about how whilst you are surfing away your modem can be hijacked and your Internet connection is made, not through your local telephone number but via one abroad and could be costing you upwards of £2 per minute. That’s about $4 US.

To read more about it have a look at: http://www.reconnectwarning.com/

For UK readers you can get some FREE software from British Telecom that will stop your modem from being hijacked in this way. Go to: http://www.bt.com/btprivacyonline/ download it now. Not tomorrow but right now.

Once installed all you have to do is to right click on the icon in the start-up task bar and select Options. There will already be a few phone prefix numbers listed so just delete those that do not pertain to the number that your computer dials to connect you to your ISP and click OK. You can if you wish input the whole number that is used to dial your ISP. I have.

You can add numbers of your choice if you wish.

NTL users have a look at the NTL web site for their solution to the possible problem.

Foreigners, from the UK viewpoint, should access their own ISP web site to see what they have or check with your telephone supplier. I believe that it is AT & T in the States but you will know best.
