I always see renting as dead money. If you are only going to live in a town for a short period before moving on then it may be considered worth it. If you are looking to put down some long term roots then buying is your best bet. Many mortgage companies have very competetive rates now. Shop around for the best deal for you on a mortgage and don't just jump at the first company/bank to offer you one.
