Mark Smyth
Signed on non-contract basis.
Mark Smyth is a product of Liverpool's youth academy who was given a new lease of life following the arrival of Rafael Benitez in 2004. The youngster was set to be released by Gerard Houllier.
He broke through into the England Under-20 side in the 2004/05 season and made his debut for Liverpool in their Carling Cup quarterfinal victory over Tottenham in December.
A lifelong Reds fan, Smyth is a pacy midfielder who has the ability to run at defenders and get forward. However, his stay of execution only lasted a year and he was released in May 2005.
