Another BBC Panic Programme and another repeat! Anyone remember the Yellowstone Park Super Volcano and the one about the Canary Islands sliding into the Atlantic and engulfing the US in a massive tidal wave?

While it is probably reasonable to assume that Vesuvius will erupt again in the near future, it is by no means reasonable to assume that it is just around the corner, nor that it would be as catastrophic as the eruption which buried Pompei and Herculaneum. In any case, the volcano is so closely monitored that there would be weeks, if not months, of warning signs should it stir into life again. I wouldn't worry, enjoy your holiday and take lots of pics to share with those of us who have to stay behind in dear old blighty.
