i would say Mcafee desktop firewall is probably the best after of course a router based firewall. Antivir is an excellent free antivirus packageas good if not better than both norton and mcafee.
Spybot search and destroy also the best spyware tool out there... try stinger too it routes out known worms etc and it is free .
