Did you ever sort your problem out Mel? I've found that if I plug mine in on the desk through an extension from one of the back ports it's happier than when I plug it directly into one of the front ports and yet other things work perfectly well through the front so I can't fathom that one out. I just plug it in where it wants to be and leave it to its own devices. (ouch!
