Not always true. I took my two dogs to the vets tonight. one is 11 and having one or two problems, I have been giving him 1/2 aspirin and it seems to help. The vet said that they could do some blood tests and investigate under sedation, however she said that due to his age and the fact that he is otherwise very fit (for 11) she would advise just to carry on with 1/2 aspirin.
Both of them have been chipped and soon got over the initial pain (and sulks)
