Your wild guess is absolutely correct.
Bit of a thread wander here - just been watching a TV program with subtitles. All I can say is I'm glad I'm not deaf or I wouldn't have made head or tale of it. The subtitles for the hard of hearing bore very little resemblance to the actual dialogue. Busman said maybe they were done by Polish immigrants!
