I remember after my Pa died, my mum and my sister took his ashes to Ronda in Spain.....it was in March so you wouldn't expect there to be thermal air currents ( well, I wouldn't). I don't know if any of you know Ronda but it is built on a huge gorge....and there are sort of platforms that are built out so you can take in the enormity of the view. My mum and my sister were on one viewing platform with their nescafe Jar with Dad's remains in.......on the next viewing platform were three lads from Birmingham. Mum released the ashes and they were caught by a thermal....they spiralled up into the air....then they dropped a few feet......then the wind changed and deposited the ash onto the lads from Birmingham....the lads said something to the effect that it was sand blown all the way from the Sahara.....my mum heard this and had to chuckle as she said to my sister....'well, not exactly the Sahara...somewhere a damn sight hotter'. I'm sure my pa was sat somewhere laughing his socks off at that.
