Wireless networks once configured are as safe as they need to be. There are three steps that you need to do,

1 enable WPA encryption, this makes sure all network traffic is encrypted and is of a standard that would take a few years with a lot of CPU power to crack. remember all financial stuff is also encrypted using SSL which has yet to be broken.

2) Lock to known MAC addresses. each network card has a special code number, you can tell your router to only accept connections from 'your' network cards

3) change teh SSID(Network name) to something hard to guess, e.g. m4ragr3! and then set it to hidden so people can't see it.

Do the above (10 mins tops) and you are as safe as you need to be. If someone decided that they really wanted your PC info they would just kick your door in and take teh PC away.
