At present the dog warden spends most of his time rounding up strays. There are too many dogs owned in towns and cities.
If rationing and microchipping of dogs was introduced the warden's job would be control of the register of dogs and the issue and withdrawl of licences. As the dog population will be reduced gradually the costs of such a scheme could eventually be no more than the present costs of a dog warden.
