Is the original story of little mermaid similar to the disney one in the fact that the sea witch used the little mermaids voice to manipulate the prince herself? Also, does the seawitch try to take power of the mer-world like in the disney film or is that extra too?

Basically, if anyone has read the original little mermaid could you please tell me the role of the sea witch in it in regards to the power she gained from the little mermaids voice.

Just wondering how different the story is compared to the disney version.
