Cows in Accrington
Haha, not as daft as some may think. Cattle used to weave their way down from the hills above sandy lane to the abbattoirs down black abbey street which belonged to the Co-Op (passing The Swan pub of course on their way!) I dont know whether these abbattoirs were before or after Hyndburn Road, but could have been at a similar time.
They did also have cattle fairs in Abbey Street each April and August. The cattle were paraded along the street and sheep and pigs were penned in front of the Red Lion, The Swan and the Oak Tree

Also, re the name Sudall, I believe the small bit of garden, near the end of Queens Road West (near what used to be the sweet shop end) was given to the town by a Sudall. Do you know anything about this?
