If you worked for me you'd be sacked. As long as you are being paid, your employer should expect you to be 'happy and smiley' to all customers, regardless of hangovers, or the time of day, and even if the customer isn't 'happy and smiley'.
The customer is always right...even when they aren't. That's good customer service.
