I think the biggest noticable change is the number of cars on the road.
I passed my driving test the year after you left, and estimate the number of cars has gone up ten-fold.
Twenty five years ago you may have saw a couple of cars parked on each street, now it's bumper to bumper.
I left in 1983 and returned in 2004. To me it seems cleaner. Much of the muck from chimneys has been cleaned off the stone buildings.
Happily the people are still as friendly, and as daft, as ever.
