The Rememberance Day poppy analogy is very apt.

Lighting a candle shows those people we haven't forgotten them, even though they might be spending Christmas in some Godforsaken hell hole.

You can even be opposed to the war, but you can still show the men and women fighting it that the public back home support and appreciate them putting their lives on the line for our freedom.

I will light a candle.
