I think that you are allowed to influence the layout as long as what you want is technically feasible, and meets health and safety standards.
There is no point in them imposing a layout which wont fit the appliances you have.

When darwendosser got his Twin Valley tenancy a few years ago, the layout had already been planned with the previous tenant, and it was slightly modified to suit his appliances.
