I know about the water seal but to be honest having spilt worse than red wine on limestone hearths etc at work we use neat bleach on some heavy stains etc and it lifts them out no bother after leaving over night.. - even takes permanent marker out also if caught quick enough..
and the reason for the granite hearth appeals to me cos its wipe clean !
