Atarah's posting about the back-to-backs is interesting. Last weekend I attended a lecture about East Lancashire housing. Other towns had many more than we had, so this example of a house which used to be two houses with a shared back wall is unusual in Accrington. There is a commonly-held thought that the houses with a back street between them were called 'back to backs', but this is wrong. This is simply terraced housing.
