Freesat is definitely the way forward, plus several of the free channels are already in HD. It will cost around £300 for a Freesat recorder and a dish to be installed but you'll be set up for years after that with no subscription charge. Don't buy a Thomson box though, very poorly made.

The only real difference with Sky is that you have even more channels that you don't want to watch and you'll be feathering the nest of the company that is gobbling up all the sports events and charging a fortune for people to watch them.
