England Shirt Ban

In what might be considered a form of heresy in England, pub crawlers wearing a Three Lions T-shirt could be banned from pubs screening live World Cup matches this summer.
The Sun reported that the Metropolitan Police in Croydon, South London, sent pub owners a letter this week with a list of recommended actions they should take to avoid the violence that has often followed past events, particularly if England comes up short.
Among the suggestions, which includes using plastic instead of glass and having doors staffed with bouncers, is this: “dress code restrictions - example no football shirts.”
Not surprisingly, fans were outraged. “We often hear of a loss of pride in Britain, now cops want to ban the England shirt,” one fan said. “It’s like saying anyone who wears one is a yob.”
Though pubs are not required to take the advice, the letter added, “Police will not hesitate to use powers under the Licensing Act should we find you are not actively supporting the prevention of crime.”
