The Council didn't own the clock did they? Why should they be made to replace it using our taxes? (It could effect all sorts of things, maybe even student grants).
Don't get me wrong I would like to see it restored to where it used to be, I have fond memories of waiting with my then young children for it to do it's thing.
The council have provided a perfectly adequate clock on the bus station, use that if you can't figure out how to set the time on your mobile.

Yes it did look a bit cheap and tacky but in a unique manner and certainly not through the eyes of the children, they loved it.
