Re: Church's ancient wells

As I wrote earlier, the well is supposed to have been situated against the eastern wall of the churchyard. According to the maps I have seen the churchyard does not appear to have changed in size. What has changed however is the wall of the churchyard. To judge by appearance, it seems to be contemporary with the late 18th century improvements to the body of the church, the same stone, same way of dressing etc. looking at the eastern wall today there is no sign of a well at all, indeed burials appear to be next to it along the whole of it's length. The conclusion, it seems that whatever remains did exist were removed when the wall was rebuilt.

What a pity. Anyway here are a couple of nice pics to enjoy as compensation.
