Geno Washington , my own opinion , think he pre-dates the "northern soul/twisted wheel heyday 67/68 " by about 2 years , but won't argue with those who think different .

Nice post, SJ. Geno actually did make it big in way. His first album, "Hand Clapping Footstomping Funky Butt Live" was in the charts for 38 weeks in '66 and they sold more albums that year than any other British-based bands, apart from the Beatles and the Stones. His live gigs were also total sell-outs. It makes me smile to see the way history has been rewritten to highlight the Who and the Small Faces as the big mod bands. Both may have made great music but the Who were a rock band for longhairs and the Faces were a teenybop band for little girls and later a psychedelic band. No mods who went in the Dahlia would have given them the time of day.

Also a piece of useless information - the stall in the market hall was called Cliff's and was run by Doris Hartley, whose husband, Tom was superintendent at the Corporation yard on Willows Lane. I used to buy a lot of my gear from there.
