No, I don't think he is anywhere near as wise as you perhaps think.
Personally, I think he was doing a three year olds trick...sulking.
I also think that he is beginning to realise how tenuous his hold is on the (deputy) leadership........If the coalition falls apart he would most definitely be the loser.
Perhaps EON might give him a job knocking on doors.
