I've just come across this artcle online.
Contains an interesting theory of how the town came to be called Accrington.

There have been other threads relating to how Aker inga tun got its name.
The Rev Burgess did a lot of research into Accringtons history, there is also a lot of info on Accrington & District in the Coucher book of Kirkstall, its mostly written in what was known as dog Latin, with some parts in church Latin. Quite a lot of the place names mentioned are still in use today.
There is also a lot of history & peoples names in the Halmote Court Rolls, when the de Lacy family ran Accrington.
