Thanks for the replies, Wixted may ring a distant bell, sadly my dad died a few months ago so can't ask him ... apparently the lady selling the potted meat had been to America and was always talking about it and considered something of a show-off. My dad lived on St James St, probably from 1930s to 1947 when he got married, he lived with his auntie and uncle who were tailors.
