Have been pondering this question -for me it's the particular colour of green that the county has -it has always been a favourite colour of mine. I also think the shape of the Penines -with the flat topped hills, is another thing. The rows of terraced stone houses often going uphill and I love cobbled streets even though they are more and more difficult to find as are proper corner shops.
Last time i was in Accy I saw a lot of rows of houses that had been sand-blasted back to their original colour and they looked great. In my kitchen at home i have a pin board full of postcards and photos featuring my favourite Lakeland fells, Pendle Hill and a Lowry painting among others -he captured something of the feeling of the North with the factories, chimneys and houses. I always think that the view across Accy from the Coppice would have made a great subject for him as it has everything in it.
