Would this have an effect on Stanley?

FA Cup replays may be dropped to accommodate winter break | Football | The Guardian

I am all for having a Winter break of some sorts but I do hope it is not of the expense of Cup Replays which maybe a lifeline for a Club like our's.

Re: Would this have an effect on Stanley?

never really been in favour of winter breaks really, think it would affect the smaller clubs cashflow though.

Re: Would this have an effect on Stanley?

If they drop replays it will affect clubs like Stanley, there has to come a time when enough is enough and leave things as they are

Re: Would this have an effect on Stanley?

Two ways of looking at this Cashy. Games played in better weather could result in bigger crowds ( more revenue ) Fewer games cancelled at the last minute, saving on wasted travel, and cancellation of sponsorship for the rearranged game. Regarding cash flow I once suggested that small clubs like ours should adopt a system favoured by some.ie Pay the players the bulk of their agreed money during the period that makes up the season, and pay a retainer for May-June. The alternative is of course to have the (overstaffed) Commercial Dept come up with something that is not football related and that will produce an income for 12 months a year. Personally I don't want a break but I could be converted.

Re: Would this have an effect on Stanley?

see yer points long time red, can remember the time when there was 3 games at easter, also more than now at xmas, those games always resulted in bumper crowds, cos everyone was on holiday i presume, fer my money the sensible way would be to return to that.

Just watched this week on sky an interview with Graham Le Saux, taken on boxing day 1994 when he said that it was a busy time of year with 4 matches in 10 days, that's the way it always was and in 1994 the prem season was still 42 matches long

Angry Re: Would this have an effect on Stanley?

Sorry, I feel a rant coming on after yet another fatuous and naive idea from the FA; does FA stand for what those jokers know?

Firstly, the 'break' would have to be agreed in advance, but who knows when bad weather will arrive? For instance, we could have a couple of weeks of frost in Nov- Dec, then a two week break with dry, sunny weather, then a couple of weeks of torrential rain. Potentially no football for over a month, despite a fortnight of decent weather during the 'break'.

Secondly, do the FA really believe that coporate businesses (aka The Premier League) will take time off and lose revenue?. Who's not up for a winter tournament in Dubai or Florida if it sells more product in the global marketplace?

Thirdly, it could put an end to the prospects of a replay at 'bigger' clubs where 'minnows' like Stanley could get more cash than at its home game.

Let's just admit that tiredness has nothing to do with it. England's team is no better than average, that the media hype around them is just that, and if the Premier League want to rest their nancy boy telebrities for Cup games they could always put out their second, third or fourth string squads.

I know it wouldn't go down with southern based fans but I think it's time to bring back North/South leagues instead of league 1 & 2.

At worst they could look at the fixtures and localise the ones from October to February to a certain degree.

ive been saying that fer years, the old 3rd div north, 3rd division south, meant better gates, more derbies, less travel expenses, etc etc, much much better fer the small club, but the F.A. are too stupid to see it.

For me LD, I would combine FL2 and Conf, to make the North/South League
