It looks a bit like the Jack House res, except for the hill in the background on the left.

The name went out of use sometime before the war. It should be on the 1901 OS map or an earlier 1890s OS if anyone’s got one.

Oh Doug you're good with maps and stuff have a look, I'm intrigued now. You'd think I'd have heard the name, my grandparents were around then and had us walking all over Ossy. They used to take us to a place up on the moors called Cocker Lumb which had a cave.

Does Ossy still have its own Moors? I remember walking up over Cocker Lumb when we were kids. I suppose it part of getting old that we forget these places.

Yeah Ossy still has moors. I remember being taught as a kid that mile for square mile Oswaldtwistle is bigger than the city of London.

Can find no reference to Windy Harbour in Oswaldtwistle on Google, just the place near Blackpool.:(

Don’t tempt me in to making adverse comments that I personally would find hilarious. :D

Windy Harbour of old is possibly over Belthorn way somewhere around the Pick Up Bank, Jackson Heights area. I not totally sure so don’t take my word for it. A trip to the library should nail it down. :)

It really does look like the bottom res. If you took the path on the left handside, it would take you up to Haslingden Old Road, past a little parking place popular with doggers, [those that park their cars to take their dogs walking.];)

Looking at the photo it most likely is a Res, it’s to wider expanse of water to be much else but the Name is likely to be a huddle of buildings probably associated with one of the many pits or quarries in the area. Some fascinating names around up that neck of the woods.

I've found a Windy Harbour on the Mario site using the historical map. It's south of Rising Bridge between the A677 Haslingden Road and the B6232 Grane Road. Map ref on OS sheet 103 77202346. It's not actually named on sheet 103 though. Could this be the Windy Harbour in question?
