Pets Win Prizes.

According to today's Observer the Friend's of Rhyddings Park, under the Chairmanship of our very own Neil, has secured a further £1,231 funding for the revamp of Pet's Corner.

Fantastic.

Might it not be a good idea if you could start a Friend's thread here, so people could be updated about developments, or for you to seek assistance when you need it?

Neil 02-02-2006 17:11

Re: Pets Win Prizes.

I think one thread on the Friends would become to big. People don't like reading 50 posts to get to the last message so they don't bother reading them at all. I think it would be better to start threads on individual aspects of the park when appropriate.

garinda 02-02-2006 17:21

Re: Pets Win Prizes.

In answer to your pm Neil, it does say that the money has been successfully secured in the Observer.

Why, has it not?

Congratulations Neil. I haven’t read the full story yet but I’ve no doubt that Pets corner is in the best of hands. I would agree this isn’t perhaps the best medium for the friends, really nothing should detract people from attending the appropriate meetings etc.

In the paper they are still appealing for people to volunteer to go on the animal management course. I thought a thread here might give them more publicity, not everyone buys the Observer.

Not every person with the required intelligence is a member of Accy-web either.

What on earth does that mean, or have to do with the thread?

If people can sell baby buggies on here successfully, perhaps people could also be informed when volunteers are needed for a worthwhile cause.

Your comment: - not everyone buys the Observer.

My Comment: - Not every person with the required intelligence is a member of Accy-web either.

It simply means the same thing.

In reply to your suggestion Neil made a Statement as to why he didn’t want to have long drawn out threads. But he did say that he would prefer to post individual notices as required.

In my post, I agreed with his assessment and went to imply that it’s preferable for interested parties to attend meetings.

Doug 02-02-2006 23:26

Re: Pets Win Prizes.

I wholehearted support this initiative and I am sure that it will be successful. I’m going to assume that NVQs are involved in the process for the candidates of the Animal Management Courses?

Out of interest what animals or current in situ?

What are you looking to bring in?

When you’re ready for voluntary labour do I bring my own Shovel?

Are you buying the beer?

Edited my reply, not wanting to go off thread.:)

There's an article about the still missing cocks and bunnies in this week's Observer.

Our own Neil is quoted, though its confusing as who is actually to blame for the lack of progress because of funding.

I'll blame HBC until I'm told otherwise.:D

Re: Pets Win Prizes.

Maybe I will start a thread explaining the story so far when I have an hour or two.

I could take a picture of you and Peter Britcliffe cuddling a bunny for next year's calendar?

It will after to be in day light as the flash isn't working on my camera, and I'm not supposed to go into the bushes with strange men after dark.:D

I've been telephoned by the ever helpful chairman of the Friends of Rhydding's Park, our very own Neil, who informs me that the animals are now back in the refurbished pet's corner.

Hurrah, and many congratulations to all who made it happen, even Neil.

He told me that although it's now open, there is an offical opening in July (21st?), together with a host of other fun attractions, which I'm sure Neil will soon publicise himself.

I do see that being another great photo opportunity for next year's Peter Britcliffe calendar. Neil holding the cock, and Peter stroking it.

Colin, the new cock.

I hope I haven't been used as a mole to release this information, as there are no moles in the new pet's corner.:D

Peacock did I hear you say, try walking round the Park next weekend if you want to see Peacocks.

I will post some pictures later, I have been up in the Park since 9am this morning and I have only just got in and had my tea.

Apparently they have.:)

I'm waiting to see the first letter of complaint from Park Lane, complaining about the noise they make, keeping them awake.:D

I have already had the first complaint and it did not come from Park Lane, they are not even in the Park yet.

It's usually the noise of children merrily playing on the swings, ducks quacking in pets corner, or the leaves blowing in their gardens.;)

The miserable beggars. There's no pleasing some folk is there? They should move if it bothers them that much, preferably to another planet.

You may have seen that there is going to be a Fun Day in Rhyddings Park on 21st July, 12noon - 4pm. There will be lots of things for people of all ages:-

Treasure hunt
Bouncy slide
Art & craft activities
Falconry display
Brass bands and Jazz bands
Performance of The History of Oswaldtwistle by the Ossy Players at 2pm

Plus the opportunity to speak to the consultants about the park

Also, the official opening of the pets corner

If you can't make it to the park on the day (or if it pees down :) ) you could always fill in the questionnaire online.

I do hope it's a fine day for it.

What on earth was the complaint about Neil? You just can't please folk sometimes no matter how you try.

Peacocks make a bit of noise when they are calling for other peacocks.

PS - I realise I'm not Neil, but he's not here - probably rescuing a peacock off someones shed as we speak :)

Yes there is a peahen so he won't be lonely.

Why not come along to see them on Saturday 21st from 12 noon.

Seeing as you are local you could always come to our next meeting on Wednesday 25th July at 7pm in the Craft Room at Ossy Town Hall. Then you can have your say as to what happens in the park.

If you look in this weeks Observer you might see two Councillors trying to take a cheque for £1500 from my 2 year old girl. Every time they touched it she shouted mine and tried to pull it back from them :D

garinda 17-07-2007 22:45

Re: Pets Win Prizes.

What theatre would you like to see and do in the park?
(please tick all that apply)

Shakespeare
Modern

Film making

Asian Plays

Other

I'm not being critical, honest, but who the hell designed the questionaire? Biggest load of tosh I've read in ages.:(

By the way, have put my name down for 'sailing taster sessions'. Will that be taking place in the bird bath in the rose garden?:D

garinda 17-07-2007 22:52

Re: Pets Win Prizes.

I haven't filled the questinaire in by the way, on principle, mainly because it's so stupid.

I will troll across to the Town Hall if I'm well that night though.:)

Neil 18-07-2007 11:48

Re: Pets Win Prizes.

The questionaire is a generic one to cover all of Hyndburn and not just Rhyddings Park. Yes there are some odd ones, it is a while since I filled it in so can't remember many of them. Please do fill it in just leave the daft questions that don't match the park. The more we get filled in the better, it will help with the lottery bid by showing how many people are interested in and use the park.

Ok, if it helps will fill it in, though I refuse to give my ethnic background, as that is totally irrelevant.

Did any of you go to the park today for the opening of the pets corner? I was going to go with my children but we weren't sure if it would still be on due to the horrible weather.Just wondering if all the activities went ahead despite the rain and what the turn-out was like.:)

There were loads of cars parked there, when my Mum tried to get out of her drive yesterday.

I hope people went to it, as I'm sure a lot of work went into it, and yesterday wasn't too rainy, so I hope it was a success.

The new and improved Pet's Corner is great, by the way.:)

Thanks Garinda.I shall go and have a look round very soon.It was a shame about the weather yesterday as,like you,I was thinking about all the hard work that must have gone into organising the day.:D

Neil 22-07-2007 18:02

Re: Pets Win Prizes.

Yes loads went, I don't know how many really, probably well over 500 during the day. The consultant had almost 200 questionnaires completed so that was a complete success.

The rain was fairly friendly to us. Even when it did start to rain people did not run away. There was things to do under cover and the bands kept on playing. The juggler never stopped even when it was raining quite hard, he was brilliant and the kids loved him.

You missed out on a great day.
