Tumble dryer Fireman From Ossie

According to the telegraph today, one of the culprits of the fireman in the tumble dryer video is from Ossie (I take it you have all seen it on the news), he is called Simon Leyland. You can also watch the video on the evening telegraph website, what do you think? is it much ado about nothing or a stupid thing to do? I personnaly think it was a daft thing to do, you might argue it was a laugh and its what roughy toughy boys do, anyway whatever the outcome the prat in the video is famous all over the world, maybe when he gets sacked he can get a job with the jackass idiots.

Re: Tumble dryer Fireman From Ossie

I hate things like this being aired in public. The emergency services and the military employ people to undertake very dangerous and highly skilled tasks, in between those duties they have periods of training and other secondary duties in which accounts for part of their watch.

The rest of the time they are at a loss as to what to do and quite often will find immature and senseless activities to keep then occupied. You must remember that these men and women are highly skill risk takers, often on our behalf. If they wish to undertake these risks so be it, I would rather have a slightly hot creased fireman rescue a member of my family than a half asleep one.

Yes it is foolish and it is stupid. But these things along with gallows humours are what keep these men alive.

What were stupid and irresponsible actions was the news network and other media who publicised this video. It is they who have put others at risk by showing the footage on national Television and stills in the press.

That should encorage the kiddies this summer if they get bored. I don't believe they’ve included the video.

It bugs me more how the media jump on it more than the fireman doing this silly little stunt.

By the way, kids don't need know encouragment to do stuff like that, I've seen it done a few when I was a kid. No it wasn't me doing it ....... honest ;)

Teacher: "A fireman, so that you can drive one of those big red fire engines?"

I have seen alot of things done for a dare etc whilst serving twenty years in the fire service, from pints of vinegar being drunk to who could eat the most weetabix, the record for that was 31 but he didn't have a poo for six days, it set like concrete, and sitting on a floor scrubber and riding it like a rodeo etc. The only thing we didn't do was video these challenges and that I am afraid is those firefighters downfall.

agree with doug,i think its a stupid prank that came out badly, should have been dealt with in house, although new technology aint helped, the media as tinks says come out worst in this to me, what they have done is just as irrisponsible in my opinion. at the end of the day these people take hellish risks on our behalf, and boredom in that job is a real bain, bottom line is if you get caught you pay the piper! ;)

I agree, the media shouldn't have stuck it on te news, Pranks like this happen all the time in reality especially in the army, theyjust don't go putting them on the news. Who sent it to them anyway? if it was the guy from the dryer then he does desserve the flack.

Personally I see it as nothing more than a few guys having a laugh, I don't think there was any danger at all because those outside the drier were there observing, if anything went wrong they would have had him out before you could say "Fireman Sam". If the Fire Service reprimand these men they should be reminded of what ane excellent job firefighters do, and not to be so petty. That is my humble opinion.

Wel said Ernie!!!!!!!!!!!! the ones outside the dryer would have never let him get into difficulty!!!!!!!.................... just like my mates wouldn't!!!:D:D

People in a stressful job also need a laugh!!! Thats what keeps them sane!

Also if you've got long hair it can get trapped and yanked out.
That stunt was carefully planned, and as you say people were there and they were trustworthy, what I'm saying is if any kids were to try it, it could be very dangerous.
I dunno how the get a way with showing stuff like jackass, when we were kids everything like that had a safety warning at the end, don't do this at home. Stupid really, cos you'd get some guy ballancing a mini car on his head and they'd say don't try this at home

PMSLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL:p

I went to Simon's wedding last year. He's a really nice chap...and though a stupid thing to do I hope he doesn't lose his job as they have their first baby due at Christmas.:(

He's a real laugh....at his wedding he had me in a spin during the gay Gordons.:D

Re: Tumble dryer Fireman From Ossie

so what a fireman did a funny trick with a tumble dryer , cant anyone find somthing better to moan about

this guy has probably ran into more fires than ive started and saved many lives

you have to be nuts to do his job but please do feel free to tell him to sod off should he turn up to rescue you in a fire , after all we wouldnt want kids mimicing his heroism and wanting to be a fireman when they grow up

edit:

me and my mate once put his mums cat in a tumle dryer but we didnt shut the door we put a screw driver in teh catch so that it would work with the door open and it could leave any time it wanted to but it enjoyed the treadmill so much it stayed there happily walking along on cool setting

was that wrong ?

Re: Tumble dryer Fireman From Ossie

We all know those lazy journalists at the Observer trawl Accy Web looking for stories and tit-bits, but I hope my post last week about being a guest at his wedding isn't the reason why their wedding picture is on the front of this week's paper.:o

Re: Tumble dryer Fireman From Ossie

That was a dispicable thing to do shame on the observer, using their wedding photo is a nasty thing to do, simon is a good lad and doesn't deserve this public humiliation after all it wasn't him who climbed into the machine, journalists if you are trawling through this LEAVE THE POOR LAD ALONE!!!!

Maybe if these so called journalists had to take dead children from burning buildings and remove traffic accidents victims piece by piece from cars they too would need to do something similar to stay sane.

garinda 29-08-2006 14:15

Re: Tumble dryer Fireman From Ossie

It was a disgraceful piece of so called journalism to print their wedding photograph on the front page. Happily the Observer did have the decency to print three letters the week after in protest of their nasty actions.

It would appear that Fireman are in the firing line at the moment. Has anyone else read of the nine Glasgow firemen who are facing summary dismissal because they refused to attend a "Gay Pride" rally to hand out fire safety leaflets to the massed ranks of gay & lesbian marchers? Some of 'em objected on moral grounds, others on the basis of it not making any sense. It don't make any difference; they are all for the chop.

No I hadn't heard of this story, but thanks to your interest in all things gay, here is a link to the story I found for anybody that wants to know what you are on about.
