Only a minor change, but.......

Why was a beautiful sycamore tree (growing on Union Road near the clinic) chopped down yesterday? If it was diseased, then I understand, but it appeared healthy, it disguised a featureless red brick wall, didn't obstruct the view of drivers, and was glorious when changing colour in Autumn. Perhaps it had the audacity to shed its leaves on the pavement, causing Mr Elf'n Safety to grab his chain saw. I find it very sad.:(

Must have been a good reason ossylass, as there are a lot of rules and regs about even pruning trees, let alone cutting them down. not sure whether HBC still have a Trees Officer, it used to be a chap called Mark Cox, but that was a few years ago

Yes they do, I was talking to her in the park a couple of months ago and she really does not like cutting trees down unless they need to be.

Aahh does seem sad Ossylass .. did have a quick scan through planning applications, not sure if needed for cutting it down 'by the council' ?

Don't know bout planning permission kate but there are local bylaws regarding trees, I actually had extensive talks with the then trees officer regarding this matter quite a few years ago, and there has to be a very very good reason for them to cut any tree down, and whoa betide anyone who cuts a tree down without consulting the council first, very heavy fines can be imposed believe me

It may well have been affecting the foundations of that wall - and it may have eventually caused the wall to collapse (on somebody maybe)

Hey kate, I live in a tree, don't let them cut any more down, get a tree preservation order from the Council and stop them. The trees soak up all the co2 from the air.
